Somatic de la Valldigna – Vera

01/02/18  – Somatic de la Valldigna

Long drive and arrive at our free parking for the night, another beautiful little place. Visit the Real Monasterio De Santa Maria De La Valldigna dating from the 14th Century.

We both have a quick chat to one of the locals, although he isn’t very talkative !!

Then back to the van for tea and some “stranger things” series one now watched roll on series 2.

Not sure where to go now, but the weather is crappy, gray and raining, so we head further south, stop at a beach just after Alicante for lunch and watch the planes coming into land.

The plane looked huge when I took this pic !!!, Now where too ? Decide to look for a work away we saw on Facebook in Vera. Message Rachel the owner and she says come on down, so we do. (A work away is you do so many hours work and they feed you, depending on how much work and hours and you have free parking for your van. –  Work Away)

First day on the job sees Dave and Mike rebuilding the compost loo, while my job is weeding, stone and snail removal.

Sunday day of rest so a few of us work awayers go up to the ‘Sacred heart of Jesus’ erected in 1949 on the hill above Vera, wonderful views.

Then into town for a pint and some grub and look at some of Veras historic sites The replica Neolithic house

The main Plaza Mayor (square) houses the 15th century Church de la Encarnación, originally built as a fort to protect against the moors, it’s an imposing building with its 4 great towers and the interior is no less impressive with a wonderful altarpiece.

The Ayuntamiento de Vera (Vera town hall) was built in the 16th century, here you will find the Ethnographic and Archaeological Museum which contains lots of interesting information and archeological finds which tell the history and folklore of Vera and its surrounding areas. Then off home again after saying adiós to Jesus in the background.
